The Red Carpet’s Hottest Colors (and How You Can Wear Them Right Now)

The Red Carpet’s Hottest Colors (and How You Can Wear Them Right Now)

February 15, 2019

The most glamorous time of the year is here: Hollywood awards season! The Oscars are scheduled for February 24, which means that your favorite leading ladies have been showing off their style at countless awards shows in the lead up to the biggest night of the year. While you might not have too many occasions for glitzy gowns in your daily life, the color trends we’ve spotted on the red carpet are surprisingly easy to translate into your everyday style.

Brilliant Blues: Shades of blue were among the most popular hues on the Golden Globes red carpet, and we’re all about this super-flattering color story. We especially loved Amy Adams’ timeless column dress in deep turquoise, and the icy blue number worn by Gina Rodriguez, which made a bold winter statement. Invite this look into your own wardrobe with a vibrant ice-blue top or a standout piece of jewelry in saturated turquoise.

Heavy Metals: The red carpet is the perfect place to show off glitzy gowns, and actresses took that to heart at the BAFTAs, often considered the British answer to the Oscars. Shades of sparkling silver dominated the evening, with stars like Michelle Yeoh and Margot Robbie showing off their best metallic styles. While all-over sequins might not be so practical for everyday wear, we love a shimmery silver top for a night on the town. Pair it with a multi-faceted crystal necklace for instant Hollywood glam.

Red Hot: The Golden Globes also saw quite a few ladies take their fashion cues from the famous carpet itself, opting for gowns in eye-catching shades of red. Black Panther star Danai Gurira led the charge in a splashy mix of red and orange sequins, while Halle Berry offered a more subdued take on the trend in deep burgundy. We also loved a bright off-the-shoulder gown from This Is Us star Chrissy Metz. Channel this look in your everyday wardrobe with a comfy red tunic that’s perfect for running around town.

Bright Whites: We’re officially over the “no white in winter” rule—and so is Kate Middleton! The Duchess of Cambridge attended the BAFTAs in a dreamy white gown, officially ushering in a new era of chic winter whites. We’re all-in when it comes to this elevated and elegant trend, which is perfectly suited to the snowier seasons. Add some bright white to your wardrobe in the form of an open-knit cardigan, or try the classic pairing of black and white for a look that’s a bit less stark but still decidedly modern.

Rainbow Hues: When it comes to color, no one has topped Crazy Rich Asians star Fiona Xie on the red carpet this awards season. Her rainbow-hued gown at the SAG Awards was a trend-setting look with one-of-a-kind style, and it reminded us to embrace color all winter long! Show off your own love of all things colorful with a vibrant floral or trendy tie-dye in vibrant hues that will transition easily into spring.
