The beginning of a new month brings with it the latest installment of our inspiration-focused blog series: Read, Watch, Wear, Eat, Do. Every month, we’ll be sharing our most stylish and influential finds in those five categories, ranging from creative recipes to seasonal wardrobe essentials. Here are five things we’re loving for April, from a can't-miss new series about the natural world to a book that will jumpstart your spring cleaning.
The Home Edit: If you’re planning to really dig into spring cleaning this month, there’s no better place to start than with this gorgeously photographed and supremely practical new book from Instagram stars Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin. The popular pair of home organizers (whose fans include Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mindy Kaling) offer up a room-by-room guide to making every space in your house more functional and beautiful. The Home Edit is the perfect companion for tackling your cluttered pantry, clearing out your basement, or prepping your closet for a streamlined capsule wardrobe.
Our Planet: For nature lovers and fans of documentary series like Planet Earth and Blue Planet, this brand-new offering from Netflix is a must-watch. Our Planet was filmed over four years in 50 different countries, capturing corners of the globe from the Arctic Circle all the way to the Amazon rainforest. Expect dazzling visuals plus narration from Planet Earth’s beloved host, David Attenborough. The eight-part series premieres on April 5.
Bold Florals: Now that the weather is finally getting warmer, we’re all about embracing the most colorful pieces in our springtime wardrobe. That means lots of floral prints—the brighter the better! We’re loving fresh florals for Easter, springtime weddings, and more seasonal occasions—or simply for everyday errands around town. If you’re really feeling bold, consider a foray into pattern mixing. A large-scale floral is the perfect match for a narrow stripe, and can even work with a subtle animal print.
Mango: This suggestion might surprise you if April feels a bit early for tropical fruit, but this month is actually the peak of mango season for one unique variety! Ataulfo mangoes, grown primarily in Mexico, are at their best in April, so pick up a few if they appear in your local grocery. Unlike the standard green varieties, Ataulfo mangoes have vibrant yellow skin and a creamier, less fibrous texture that’s quickly making them our favorite springtime snack.
Take a Hike: The sun is shining, temperatures are climbing—it’s time to get outside! April is the perfect time to take a hike; it’s not too warm or too cold, and your calendar hasn’t yet filled up with summer vacations. Head out to that local trail you’ve been meaning to explore, or check out this guide to the best hiking trails in every state if you’re up for a challenge.
