See you later, snow boots! Spring officially arrives on March 20, and we’re counting down the days until sandal season. Designers showed off a wide array of colorful, playfully embellished footwear for Spring 2019, and we can’t wait to start rocking some of the season’s hottest pairs as temperatures rise. Read on for five of our favorite spring shoe trends and how we’re planning to wear them this year.
By the Sea: As soon as the first warm days arrive, we find ourselves dreaming of a beach vacation; it seems that lots of top designers have sun and sand on their minds this season, too. Altazurra, Prada, and Michael Kors all showed off shoes with serious Little Mermaid vibes for spring; think fishnet cutouts, bedazzled starfish, and tiny seashell charms. We’re planning to rock these beachy pairs with breezy dresses in bright, solid shades for the perfect vacation look.
Sparkly Slides: Once consigned solely to your gym bag, the humble slide is having a serious moment this year. This simple shoe silhouette got an upgrade from designers like Balenciaga, Miu Miu and Chloe, who dressed up their slides with rhinestone embellishments, colorful fringes, and platform soles. Dressy slides are the perfect pick when you need to be comfortable and add a playful edge to your outfit. Pair them with cool crop top and jeans for shopping, sightseeing, or a casual date night.
Pops of Neon: Spring is the ideal time to embrace color, and this season’s neon shoes are making that easier than ever. Alexandre Birman, Prada, and Fendi showed off heels in highlighter hues for spring, and we can’t wait to pick out our own statement pairs. When it comes to neon, we’re all about leaning into the trend. Rock a vibrant shoe color with your favorite tropical print for a look that you’ll love all spring and summer long.
Outdoorsy Sandals: Previously known as the favorite sandal of dads everywhere, Tevas (yes, Tevas!) are one of the hottest trends in high fashion for Spring 2019. These practical sandals retained their key trademarks on the runway—think Velcro straps and comfy foam soles—but designers including Anna Sui and Sandy Liang added some high-style grace notes like platform silhouettes and iridescent fabrics. We’re all about embracing old-school outdoorsy sandals for springtime strolls and everyday errands. Pair them up with a crossbody bag for the ultimate combination of practical yet chic accessories.
Lovely Lavender: Closing out our list of spring shoe trends is a color synonymous with Easter’s pastel palette—lavender. This soft and sweet shade made an appearance on the runway at Kate Spade and Calvin Luo; we can’t wait to add a pop of pale purple to our shoe collection. Lighten up your favorite little black dress with a pair of lavender mules, or meet the trend head-on with a monochromatic dress and sandal combination.
