The DIY, Do It Yourself, beauty movement has been around for years, but was reinvigorated in the last few years by Pinterest. I grew up doing plenty of DIY beauty treatments, hello mayonnaise hair masks and egg-white facials! But now with Pinterest, DIY beauty treatments have been elevated to a whole another level.
Long gone are the days are inedible creations that don’t reap any rewards. Nowadays DIY beauty is all about seeing the results from your beauty treatments. And there’s something to be said about knowing, exactly, what you’re putting on your skin. So, ditch the store-bought skincare products and ransack your fridge instead!
Not only are these 4 DIY beauty treatments effective, but they are also super affordable and convenient. Get ready to mask, Netflix, and chill.
3-4 Drops Raw Honey
Say Buh-bye to blackheads in 5 minutes with this easy-peasy mask. Squeeze half a lemon and mix in 3-4 drops of raw honey. Take the mixture and rub it on your face, paying particular attention to your problem areas think nose, chin, and forehead. Let the concoction sit for 5 minutes then rinse with cold water. The lemon will help fade any dark spots while the honey helps restore the moisture to your face.
WAKE-ME-UP BREAKFAST MASK
1 TBSP Raw Honey
¼ Banana (mashed)
1 TBSP Greek Yogurt
Combine all the ingredients into a bowl. Apply the mixture to your face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. I highly suggest putting your banana in the fridge and letting it get cold with your yogurt. The chilled mixture will not only wake up your skin, but it will also be super refreshing and cooling, which is great if you have irritated or red skin. Meanwhile, the yogurt and banana also work together to mildly exfoliate your skin, while the honey is moisturizing and helps kill any bacteria on your face.
SUGAR-SUGAR COCONUT BODY SCRUB
1 TBSP Raw Honey
2 TBSP Coconut Oil
1 Cup Brown Sugar
½ Cup Sea Salt
2 TBSP Fresh Lemon Juice
1 TBSP of your favorite essential oil
Combine all ingredients into a container until they form a thick paste. Step into the shower and apply the scrub to moist, damp skin. Move in circular motions to help remove any dead skin cells. Rinse off with warm water and follow-up with your favorite moisturizer for soft, glowy skin.
AMAZING AVOCADO BALANCING MASK
3 TBSP Green Clay Powder
1 Small Avocado (mashed)
½ Small cucumber (grated)
1 TSP Fresh Lemon Juice
Mix all the ingredients then cover and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Wash your face and make sure your skin is patted dry. Apply a thick layer of the concoction to your face and neck. Avoid your eye and lip areas. After 15 minutes, wipe the make off with a warm washcloth.
